Backward Oasis – The Swimming Pool in Southern California Photography

I make no secret of my love for the Palm Springs style – those hazy summer images, the straight clean lines of the building and the bright contrasting colours. So this book, which has just come out this month (perfect timing for those of us in London freezing our little cotton socks off), is a must have. Perfect for daydreaming and for future inspiration.

Judge Anderson Residence by  Maynard Parker (1963)

The Kaufman House [as appreciated on here last week!] by Julius Shulman (1947)

Orange Umbrella, The Motel Series, Desert Hot Springs by Loretta Ayeroff (1981)

Sinatra House, E. Stewart Williams, Architect by Julius Shulman (1948)

Hockney Painted this Pool by Bill Owens (1980)

All images from Pacific Standard Time

For those of you lucky enough to be able to visit, the pictures are being shown at an exhibition at Palm Springs Art Museum. I will have to satisfy myself with the book!

I absolutely LOVE these houses and pools… I love all the glass looking out to the beautiful vistas… And the pools… Ahhhh! Wonderful post!

    • Thanks Barbara! At least you’re slightly closer to the dream than I am – being in America…
